Job concerns increasing among hospitality’s frontline workers

Written by: Edward Waddell
Almost three quarters of people working in the hospitality industry are concerned about their job security as the sector heads into a second national lockdown in England.

A survey from CGA and CPL Learning found hospitality professionals were either very concerned (39%) or slightly concerned (33%) about their short-term job security.

A second national lockdown in England has closed all hospitality venues in England from 5 November to 2 December 2020.

Two in five people (42%) are also concerned about their long-term job security, double the figure in CGA’s Hospitality Professionals survey towards the end of the first national lockdown in June.

Chloe Sheerin, consumer research executive, at CGA, said: “This survey illustrates how lockdowns and a steady stream of new trading restrictions have created widespread anxiety for hospitality professionals.

“Frontline teams have worked very hard to bolster consumers’ confidence and support the sector’s recovery over the last few months, but November will now be a stressful month for many of them.”

Previous Hospitality Professionals surveys showed businesses did a good job of supporting their team over the first lockdown period, with a third (35%) saying their opinions of their employers improved over lockdown.
