As the leading chef association in the UK, The Craft Guild of Chefs recognises its role in championing the skill and talent of the people it represents from all aspects of the foodservice and hospitality sector. With members encompassing new chefs starting their career, to those working at a Michelin-star level, the Craft Guild of Chefs is uniquely positioned at the forefront of the UK’s culinary scene.
The association has always committed to increasing the standards of professional cooking through greater awareness, education, and training, but is keen to do more to inspire the next generation of chefs at a grassroots level. To support this mission, The Craft Guild of Chefs is delighted to announce the launch of a new accreditation programme, which appeared to be well received, judging by the 55 colleges that joined us on a recent webinar to learn more about it.
The scheme is aimed at colleges and universities that want to benefit from the association’s decades of experience and to tap into its extensive network of chefs by associating their faculty with the Craft Guild of Chefs name. It will also offer colleges access to high profile chefs who can be asked to become guest speakers and College Patrons.
We also recognise that newer chefs entering the industry will find opportunities tougher because of the challenges the industry faced during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is our ambition that the scheme will help boost prospects by demonstrating that the college or university has been independently accredited to the highest standard.
To take part in the scheme, universities and colleges will need to meet stringent criteria set by the Craft Guild of Chefs demonstrating that the faculty offers a high calibre of teaching. An independent assessor from The Craft Guild of Chefs will inspect the course to ensure it meets the standard required and will give the course a grading of Gold, Silver or Bronze.
Although we’ve have only just launched, we are delighted to announce that we already have some trailblazing institutions who have signed up for the 2020 academic year. These include the below:
- University College Birmingham
- Westminster Kingsway College
- Loughborough College
If you would like to find out more about the scheme and to join, further information can be found on the accreditation document.
