July/August 2015: Welcome

Written by: Admin
The Craft Guild of Chefs 50th Anniversary year seems to be flying by and with a couple of key events already dispatched, it’s time to enjoy one of our regular favourites, the Craft Guild of Chefs Awards.

As you read this the ‘chosen few’ will be celebrating their achievements quietly with a mug of hot cocoa or, I suspect, a sherry or port and lemon at the bar.

To be nominated for an award indicates that your peers see you as a leader in your respective field; to win an award means you are the best of the best. To all nominees and winners, I wish you hearty congratulations.

The end of May brought the annual pilgrimage down to Brockenhurst College for the Wessex Salon Culinaire. Returning to the college for a fourth time, this competition has grown each year and attracted more than 600 entries across the two days. Colleges from all over the UK bring young students to participate in this popular student Salon and it continues to play a valuable role in inducting them into the competition arena.

The WorldSkills scouts were in attendance, looking for the next shining stars to represent the UK on the world stage and confirming that cooking and the hospitality industry in general is a great place to be.

Dodging the showers seems to be the norm in June but I’m reliably informed by Google that the weather for our Family Fun Day will be cracking. For me this is a chance to bring family and friends together for the official day when the Craft Guild was formed 50 years ago and to enjoy food, games and the promised sunshine.

Planning for our last official event of the year, which will be attended by our Royal patron HRH the Countess of Wessex, is in the final detail stage and promises to be an occasion not to be missed!
