Win Michel Roux Jr's brand new book worth £25
The Craft Guild of Chefs has teamed up with the publisher of Michel Roux Jr's brand new book 'A Life in the Kitchen', to give three lucky readers the chance to win a copy.
Michel Roux Jr is one of Britain's top chefs and a regular on the BBC1 TV series Master Chef. A member of the legendary Roux cooking dynasty, Michel Roux Jr tells the story of his exacting apprenticeships in some of France's grandest culinary establishments, of his family life and of what happens behind the scenes at the two Michelin star restaurant Le Gavroche which he has run for nearly twenty years. Michel Jr reveals what it was like to grow up as part of this 'magic' tradition and close-knit family environment, amid constant discussion about food and wine, where 'only the best would do'. Michel Jr also reflects on what he learnt during his apprenticeships in some of the top establishments in France and his military service, which consisted of cooking at the Elysée Palace for President François Mitterrand. Michel took over running Le Gavroche (in London) in 1991, gradually adjusting the classic dishes to the modern, lighter palate, and maintaining the restaurant's two Michelin stars throughout. Michel Roux: A Life In The Kitchen tells us about 'life behind the scenes' in the two Michelin star restaurant. He also shares his knowledge on everyday ingredients and how to get the best from your food – dressing salad leaves, how to choose cheese and wine to accompany your meal, and composing a balanced meal. This competition is now closed. Michel Roux Jr: A Life in the Kitchen is published in hardback by Weidenfeld & Nicolson on 29 January 2009 and priced at £25.00.
