Le Cordon Bleu partners with London university to create new hospitality master’s degree
Whereas these existing degrees focus on the food industry, the MSc Hospitality Innovation Management will look at all aspects of hospitality management and is ‘the first of its kind’ in the UK.
A spokesperson said: “Hospitality businesses operate in a constantly changing industry that provides numerous opportunities for individuals and organisations. The complex and evolving nature of hospitality also provides unique challenges for businesses meaning traditional business models may no longer be viable.
“Businesses need to embrace innovation to cater for diverse and changing consumer trends and to ensure they stay sustainably profitable. This distinctive course will draw on both academic and professional expertise to provide the opportunity for personal and professional development within the field and equip students with the skills to meet challenges head on with inventive solutions.”
Conducted entirely through evening classes, the MSc Hospitality Innovation Management focuses on teaching students to use innovation and strategy to address issues and trends in an ever-changing industry.
Chef and restaurateur Chris Galvin, who was recently appointed as honorary visiting professor of practice in Birkbeck’s Department of Management and who will be lecturing on the course, commented: “It feels great to be able to work on this programme and hopefully be able to inspire students and share current business trends. I have always believed work experience that is supported by education is the perfect combination. I am a true believer in lifelong education.”
