Ken Hom calls for support of Burma relief efforts
Acclaimed Asian chef Ken Hom is calling on people all over the world to support ongoing relief efforts to help the survivors of cyclone Nargis.
Hundreds of thousands of families have lost their relatives, their homes, livestock and food stocks due to cyclone Nargis in Burma. Water points were destroyed and contaminated. In addition to this, cyclone destroyed a region known as the 'rice basket' of the country, which risks leading to a second humanitarian crisis affecting the entire population.
Ken, who is an ambassador of aid agency Action Against Hunger, commented: "Action Against Hunger's team are already on the ground providing life-saving assistance to survivors…I receive regular news from the team on the ground who have already delivered the first convoy of aid. The team is doing its utmost but needs much more support."
He continued: "The crisis is massive and families are lacking food, water and shelter. For the past years we have witnessed more and more natural disasters hitting South-East Asia. International solidarity has been great. Today we must help the survivors of the cyclone and the children of Burma."
Action Against Hunger has worked in Burma for over 15 years, and more then 15 international aid workers and dozens of local aid workers are already on the round in the affected areas.
Ken Hom has been an Action Against Hunger Ambassador for more than three years and is personally involved helping the charity raise funds for its worldwide programmes.
