Written by: Edward Waddell
Entries are now open for the UK’s only National Ice Cream Competition where 16 awards will be given out ranging from most popular flavour to the ‘Newcomers’ award.

The competition is held every year at the Ice Cream and Artisan Food Show, with the 70th show being held at Harrogate’s Yorkshire Event Centre on 11 to 13 February 2020. The Show is organised by the industry’s trade association – The Ice Cream Alliance.

‘The Alternative Class’ award, a new category for 2020, recognises all those varieties of ice cream that are vegan, dairy free and gluten free.

The 16 category winners are judged at the show and an overall National Champion will be announced at The Presidents Ball. The winners will receive an Ice Cream Alliance Winners certificate and a silver trophy.

Zelica Carr, chief executive of The Ice Cream Alliance, said: “The National Ice Cream Competition has been held for 75 years. It showcases the brightest and best in our booming sector, now worth over £1.4 billion a year. If you have creative flair in your ice cream making you should enter.”

The closing date for applications is 10 January 2020. To enter visit: http://www.ice-cream.org/
