Dev Biswal was crowned Asian Chef of the Year at the Manchester Hilton, on 23 June, where 500 people attended the event, including leading restaurateurs, chefs, food writers and VIP guests.

The Asian Restaurant Awards are organised by the Asian Catering Federation (ACF), which represents the nation’s 30,000 Asian and Oriental restaurants.

Biswal is the owner of The Ambrette restaurants in Margate and Canterbury in Kent. He also owns the Devil in Rye, East Sussex that received a separate accolade for the best Asian Restaurant on the South Coast.

Biswal’s combination of classic and authentic dishes from the sub-continent with modern gastronomic techniques saw him receive the night’s top prize.

Biswal said: “It's very humbling to receive such an honour, when there are now so many top Indian chefs creating wonderful dishes in the UK.

“It's great testimony to the dedication to my talented teams, who work tirelessly to achieve consistent high standards and create such exceptional culinary experiences."

Judges, led by Cobra Good Curry Guide editor Pat Chapman said; “Dev’s innovative combination of exotic ingredients and seasonal, local fresh produce never fails to delight.”

Other top awards went to Asma Khan’s Darjeeling Express, Indian Accent won the Asian Gourmet Restaurant of the Year and Bindu Patel’s new Sanctua vegan restaurant in Leicester won Best Plant-Based Restaurant.
