The Crown at Whitebrook, near Monmouth, has been named the best restaurant in Wales in the Wales True Taste Food and Drink Awards which took place last night.
The Crown was initially the South Wales regional winner but beat off stiff competition from the three other regional winners to be named the Wales champion. The other regional winners in the 2009/10 awards, recognised as the Oscars of the Welsh food industry, were: Ynyshir Hall, Machynlleth, Powys; Tyddyn Llan, Llandrillo, Denbighshire and Cwtch, St David's, Pembrokeshire. The Crown general manager David Hennigan commented on the achievement: "This is a truly magnificent achievement and is down to the sheer hard work and dedication, professionalism and enthusiasm of the entire team at The Crown at Whitebrook from front of house through to the kitchen. "We stood up to be judged against the very best establishments in Wales and came out on top which is a fantastic accomplishment and very pleasing for everyone associated with The Crown at Whitebrook." The Crown at Whitebrook is the only restaurant in Wales to hold a coveted Michelin star. The Crown at Whitebrook's sister restaurant, The Crown at Celtic Manor, is a three AA rosette winning establishment.
