Craft Guild announces passing of Bev Puxley

Written by: Edward Waddell
The Craft Guild of Chefs is sad to announce that Bev Puxley has passed away. He was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer in the Spring of last year.

Bev was an alumni of Westminster Technical College, where he actually met his wife as they studied together. He mentioned to his close friend as soon as he saw her that she was going to be his wife one day, and his friend bet him £25 that it wouldn’t happen. To this day, he still hasn’t received his wager payment.

Bev had a great career that saw him getting into teaching via Torquay College and then back to where it all started at Westminster College where he became the Head of School (in those days part of the college Senior Leadership Team).

A fiercely loyal and considerable friend to all at Westminster, he became a Fellow and was always part of the Old Students Association lunches that they hosted on a yearly basis.

He was a staunch supporter of the Worshipful Company of Cooks, where he was a Past Master, and always supported the Westminster College Apprenticeship Programme with them. He is an Academician (Royal Academy of Culinary Arts) and a member of the Craft Guild of Chefs.

Some of you will hold very dear memories of this great man who devoted so much of his time to Westminster.

Gary Hunter, deputy executive principal, said: “Such as when he interviewed me and offered me the role as a Pastry Chef Lecturer at the college. It was an interview that I thought I had totally blown, and especially up against 20 of London’s top Pastry Chefs at the time, I thought that I had no chance, yet here I am still here today.

“My thoughts are with each of you today, but especially with the Puxley family, who need our support and strength at this time. He epitomised everything we understand about the Westminster Family. He was, and is, Mr Westminster.”
