Celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli is helping college students raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance during his guest appearance in west Cumbria this week.
He has spent his time this week working with catering students to prepare a Cumbrian-themed meal, including Silloth potted shrimp and Eden Valley lamb, and he has led a masterclass to teach local budding chefs how to recreate his own dishes. The renowned chef said: "Some great chefs can come out of Lakes College. It is my privilege to see young talent like this, and it's exciting to see how much they have improved since I was last here." Sean Garty, 18, from Keswick, said: "I've loved cooking since I was young and I am sure that working with a celebrity chef will be an inspiration to my work." Kimberleigh Nowak, a 20-year-old diploma student from Seaton, added: "I want to be a catering tutor and I hope that working with Jean-Christophe will give me more confidence and help me get into the industry." The masterclasses, held over two days, cost £250 each including lunch and profits will go to the air ambulance.
