Celebrity chef Aldo Zilli freezes V.A.T rise in his restaurants
Celebrity Chef Aldo Zilli has said no to the rise in V.A.T. that recently occurred and is currently offering no V.A.T. at all in his restaurants, Zilli Green and Zilli Fish (from 7th-14th January).
After that period, customers will be able to enjoy a V.A.T. tax break every Monday in January in the restaurants and from February onwards VAT will remain at 17.5%.
Zilli commented on the freeze: "In the last few years customers have had a really rough ride. This new rise in V.A.T. is going to see them get hit again. So at my Soho restaurants, Zilli Fish and Zilli Green, from Friday 7th - Friday 14th January, we've decided to not charge any V.A.T. to our diners and from then on we will absorb the cost of the 2.5% tax increase ourselves so that people aren't put out of pocket and can still enjoy a few pleasures in life like going out for a nice meal."
Several other restaurants are also committed to beating the tax in London and have frozen V.A.T. These include The Drunken Monkey, The Red Fort and The Chesterfield.
