Written by: Edward Waddell
Entries are now open for The British Student Culinary Championships, which has replaced the Wessex Salon Culinaire for 2020.

The British Student Culinary Championships will take place on 27-28 May 2020 at Central Bedfordshire College. The event is growing in stature and is a good platform for student chefs to get a first taste of a competition experience.

The competition is divided into five categories including live hot, live cold, restaurant, cold static and bakery. Each competition has its own judging criteria and is marked independently by judges.

A separate entry form must be completed by each competitor and sent to the Craft Guild of Chefs by 1 May 2020.

The awards will be made to the standard achieved:

  • Gold award= 90% or more
  • Silver award= 75% or more
  • Bronze award= 65% or more
  • Certificate of merit= 55% or more

Andrew Green, chief executive of the Craft Guild of Chefs, said: “The change of name reflects the growth of competition as it attracts students from all over the UK.

“We hope this move will encourage even more young chefs to enter for the chance to get their first taste of a professional competition and to showcase their culinary skills.”
