Antonio Federici scoops award for 'Best Ice Cream in the World'

Two British ice cream makers are celebrating a unique win for an ice cream inspired by their Italian grandfather’s 100 year-old recipe.
Brothers Frank and Philip wanted to create the best ice cream they could and delved into their Italian heritage for inspiration. In doing so the family scooped the ultimate accolade: the award for 'Best Ice Cream in the World' at the International Ice Cream Consortium's (IICC) 2009 Awards in Germany last week. Federici was up against all the products produced by other members of the International Ice Cream Consortium (IICC). The IICC is the largest collective group of ice cream manufacturers globally after Unilever and Nestle. The products were judged on the entirety of the product offering, from consumer concept, positioning, packaging, flavour, texture and delivery. Frank said: "We are both honoured and humbled that our gelato, which is inspired by our grandfather, has been recognised by the leading manufacturers around the world". The brothers now plan to launch a Facebook appreciation society for the gelato where customers can share recipe ideas and serving suggestions.
