Essential Cuisine crowns ‘turn up the heat’ competition winner

Written by: Edward Waddell
Stocks and sauces supplier Essential Cuisine has announced the winner of the ‘turn up the heat’ competition, which was created to celebrate the return of catering across the foodservice industry.

Chefs were tasked with submitting their ‘hero summer dish’ to be in with a chance of winning a commercial kitchen appliance of their choice up to the value of £1,000.

Anthony Gascoigne, course team leader in the Hospitality and Catering department at North Hertfordshire College, was announced as the overall winner.

Jon Harvey-Barnes, senior development chef at Essential Cuisine, said: “Anthony’s entry comprised of a chargrilled sirloin, dressed with a shallot and herb dressing, topped with goats cheese and chive flowers – all served on a barbequed flatbread.

“This dish is the epitome of summer, containing local, seasonal ingredients and advanced techniques. We were so impressed by Anthony’s commitment to his college and students and hope that this prize will support the learnings of our next generation of chefs for years to come.”
