Winner: Dennis Mwakulua,Fujitsu Services
From starting out as a kitchen porter to attaining his current role of executive chef at Fujitsu Services for the Compass Group, Dennis Mwakulua has shown tenacity and an insatiable thirst for knowledge which has resulted in many plaudits from all his employers and their clients.
Described as an extremely hard worker, working seven days a week, he helped to ensure profitability for the business through shrewd management of his kitchen and on site front of house team. He has also helped with sales bids for the London region through food presentations and tastings for prospective clients.
Mwakulua has collected many awards throughout his career from a gold medal at the Hospitality show in January and a silver medal at the Culinary Olympics in 2008, to the Compass UK & Ireland Chef of the Year overall winner in 2008.
Being self taught, he knows the importance of education and is involved with the Thames Valley University, Westminster Kingsway College for the Junior Chefs Academy and Laycock Primary School promoting healthy eating. As a Kenyan citizen, he is also working with the Rotary Club and the Swahili Support Network setting up a school in Kenya.
