Winner:Simon Hulstone,The Royal Lancaster Hotel
Simon Hulstone is chef owner of the Elephant Bar & Restaurant in Torquay, which was the first restaurant in the area to be awarded a Michelin star and is also one of only three restaurants in Devon to hold this honour.
Hulstone is a veteran of the competititon arena. He is a Roux scholar and to date is the only British chef to win gold at the World Chef Championships in France.
In 2008 he won the Knorr National Chef of the Year title and captained the British Olympic culinary team competing in Germany, bringing home 35 medals. He then went on to compete against some of the world's top chefs in the Bocuse d'Or championships in January 2009 reaching 10th place.
Always happy to share his knowledge, he has helped develop students from local schools and helped judge at industry competitions such as FutureChef and the Rotary Chef of the Year Awards.
