March - April 2015: Welcome

Written by: Admin
Welcome to the second edition of our fabulous new-look Stockpot magazine and as I sit writing this the sun is rising on what is turning out to be a beautiful sunny and chilly morning, hope indeed for an excellent start to our 50th celebratory year.

Tucked inside the last issue was a new idea we introduced to our members: the Craft Guild of Chefs’ Dining Out Club. It’s a chance to eat in some great places with talented Craft Guild members entertaining us for lunch. For our first event we were hosted by Harry Lomas, executive chef at the spectacular Grove in Hertfordshire. On hand for a guided tour of the hotel was our current National Chef of the Year Russell Bateman, head chef of the venue’s Colette’s restaurant, who enthused us with his passion for using the home-grown ingredients available to him from the kitchen garden within the grounds; while cooking for us in the Glasshouse restaurant was Mark Sweeney and his team. The day was a truly memorable experience for all that attended and our thanks go to Harry and his team for making it such a special occasion. I urge you not to miss the next ‘pop-up lunch’ for the Dining Out Club, details of which are on page 21.

Coming up in the beginning of April is our AGM, a chance to get together with friends old and new and, for members who feel they want to get involved, a chance to vote on the various committee positions available.

The Craft Guild is a large and complex machine and we rely heavily on large donations of time and energy to help keep it on track and moving forward, so if you feel you can help please get in touch as I’d love to hear from you.
Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

Christopher Basten
National Chairman, Craft Guild of Chefs
