Simon Shaw to open modern Portuguese restaurant
Specialising in modern Portuguese cuisine, the former executive head chef at Harvey Nichols will offer ‘traditional favourites served with a modern edge.’
Open for brunch, lunch the dinner, head chef Carlos Gomes has created a menu of seasonal small plates and larger dishes, including prawn turnover, octopus lagareiro and Ibérico pig’s cheeks. Take-out will also be available for selected dishes only.
Shaw said: “It’s been on my radar to open a modern Portuguese restaurant for some time. The actual turnaround time, from us acquiring the site to fit out and now the final stages of preparation, has been pretty quick.
“Canto is in a brilliant location and perfect for what we want to achieve - an informal and relaxed offer, a real neighbourhood restaurant where you can drop in for a coffee, enjoy a spot of lunch or get together with friends over dinner.
“There are some top operators already doing great things in (the area), so we’re looking forward to joining them and bringing something totally different to the city.”
Gomes added: “It’s been a real labour of love. Many of the dishes we’ll be serving have a real personal connection for me. It will be typically Portuguese and see a good selection of specials that rotate each season.”
