Northumberland based chef to feature on competitive cooking programme

Written by: Edward Waddell
Cal Byerley, chef patron of Northumberland’s Restaurant Pine, is set to appear on the 2023 edition of Great British Menu.

He features as one of four chefs representing the North-East of England in the regional heats, which start on 31st January and will see the chefs competing for a place in finals week. This year’s theme is celebrating Britain’s success in animation and illustration.

The programme format remains the same, with Andi Oliver returning to present the series, with a judging line-up of: Michelin starred GBM double banquet winner Tom Kerridge, restaurateur Nisha Katona and food podcast presenter Ed Gamble.

Cal said: ''It really still hasn’t sunk in that I’m a part of Great British Menu 2023. It’s a little bit daunting but I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to show a little of what we are about at Pine and representing Northumberland in the northeast regional heats and seeing what happens against some of the UK’s best established and up and coming chefs.''
