Master Chefs of Great Britain hosts free game masterclass for young chefs
Over 200 culinary students from colleges and hotels throughout Scotland joined in with the masterclass on Wednesday 11th October. Chefs donated their time to help the students and apprentices gain news skills, while doing cooking demonstrations with Scottish game including grouse, mallard, partridge and roe deer.
The Masterclass featured demonstrations by:
- Three Michelin Star chef Steven Doherty former head chef at the iconic Le Gavroche with the first winner of Masterchef the Professionals, Derek Johnstone.
- Chef Jeff Bland, former executive chef at No1 The Balmoral, Edinburgh with chef Richard Dalgleish of Gleneagles.
- One Michelin Star Graeme Cheevers from UNALOME, Glasgow
Loriana Pacitti, a 2nd year student at South Lanarkshire College said: “The best bit was being able to watch the chef’s cooking process and then the opportunity to taste the result. I would one hundred percent want to come back to the next one.”
Students heard the importance of working close with suppliers to ensure chefs cook with fresh, locally sourced produce.
George McIvor, chairman of The Master Chefs of Great Britain, added: “We were delighted to be hosting this event at Prestonfield House courtesy of James Thomson. The showcase will allow students to engage with internationally recognised chefs and inspire them to develop their individual skills while learning from the very best using prime Scottish Game.”
The Master Chefs of Great Britian will be holding a patisserie masterclass at Prestonfield House on Wednesday 17th January 2024.
