Jun Tanaka to open debut restaurant next month
Located across three floors at 22 Charlotte Street, the 2,750 sq ft restaurant will cater to 43-covers on the ground floor with a further eight covers on a small terrace and 43 on the first floor, including a 12-seat semi-private dining space overlooking the street.
Rosendale Design has designed interiors with key elements including moss green leather banquettes, green slate, exposed brick, copper accents, dark wood flooring and vintage stool and lighting details.
Open for lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday, The Ninth will offer a casual French-Mediterranean sharing menu with contemporary plates that celebrate seasonal produce, as well as raw and cured dishes.
A concise wine list offers 25 red and 25 white bottles, with many by the glass and carafe, from the major wine-growing regions of the world with a small selection of rosé and dessert wines.
Tanaka said: “I am hugely excited to be launching my own restaurant in one of London’s most popular dining neighbourhoods. I really want guests to feel like they’re coming to dine at my home – it will have a very casual, friendly and approachable feel too.”
Tanaka has garnered over 20 years experience working London’s restaurants, including a decade under the tutelage of Michael Roux Jnr, Marco Pierre White, Nico Ladenis and Eric Chavot.
Most recently Jun was Executive Chef at Pearl in Holborn, gaining three AA Rosettes. With his partner Mark Jankel, Jun Tanaka created the sustainable mobile Street Kitchen brand; launching its fourth site and first permanent one earlier this year on Broadgate Circle.
