
Italy hosts European World Pastry Cup for the first time
Held during the ‘Gourmet’ trade show in Turin (Oval Lingotto exhibition centre), the eight national teams will each have five hours to create a fruit dessert, 10 desserts on a plate and two sculptures - one made of sugar and one of chocolate.
Battling for one of thee places, are: Belgium, Turkey, Sweden, Russia, Poland, Switzerland, Bulgaria and Israel, whose creations will then be tasted by the international jury before the winner is announced.
Having won the last Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie (2015), Italy is already qualified to take part in the 2019 finale in Lyon (27-28 January) where 22 countries - 3 from each continental selection round - will compete against the top five nations: Italy, Japan, USA, South Korea and the UK.
The competition, which takes place every two years, was founded by pastry chef Gabriel Paillasson in Lyon, France in 1989 and will be celebrating its 30th anniversary during the 2019 finale.
Attracting chocolate experts, pastry chefs and ice specialists from around the world, the “prestigious” Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie contest is often regarded as “the main pastry event worldwide.”
