Great Chefs Dinner 2018 once again supports sufferers of ‘fatal skin condition’

Written by: Katie Imms
This year’s Great Chefs Dinner, once again hosted by chef Michel Roux Jr., will take place next month (6 February) to raise money for people suffering from the skin blistering condition, Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB.)

With all six chefs, including Chris King, Chris Galvin, Jacob Kenedy, Michel Roux Jr, Hywel Jones and Andrew Gravett, “giving up their time for free,” they will each be responsible for one of the six-course dishes:

  • Chris King (executive chef at The Langham, London) - canapés
  • Chris Galvin (owner of Galvin restaurants) - escabeche of yellow fin tuna, aubergine purée and herbs
  • Jacob Kenedy (owner of Bocca di Lupo) - crescentine with squacquerone, porchetta and black truffle
  • Michel Roux Jr. (owner of Le Gavroche) - saffron braised Pyrenean milk-fed lamb
  • Hywel Jones (executive chef of Restaurant Hywel Jones and The Brasserie at Lucknam Park) - guanaja chocolate and peanut bar, caramelised banana
  • Andrew Gravett (executive pastry chef at The Langham) - Petits Fours

Now in its third year, the Great Chefs Dinner 2018 will take place The Langham Hotel’s Palm Court restaurant (London), where the 106 guests will also enjoy specially paired wines with each course – donated for free by English wine producer, Chapel Down.

All money raised on the evening will be donated to charity DEBRA’s #FightEB appeal, which helps fund EB research and provide care and support for people suffering from the condition.

Last year’s £80,000 fundraiser went towards the construction of the new Rare Diseases Centre at St Thomas’s Hospital, London, with sufferer James Dunn, who will be speaking on the night, explaining: “The centre is very bright, modern and spacious. I love the communal area – it’s more open and sociable now. It’s brilliant that, for the first time, we have our own space and everything we need is done here (at St Thomas’s) without moving around – it makes life much easier.”

Michel Roux Jr added: “When I first heard about EB and the incredible work that DEBRA does, I felt compelled to help. I am honoured to be hosting the Great Chefs Dinner once again this year and continue my long-standing support for the #FightEB appeal.

“The research and aid funded by DEBRA is so important to help sufferers and their families have a better quality of life, and I am proud to be involved with this worthwhile event.”
