Grand Cuisine Academy celebrates fifth birthday
Over the past five years the Grand Cuisine Academy has created nearly 200 recipe and skills videos which students and lecturers can access free of charge via the Academy website.
Along with these videos - which include everything from knife skills to creating mother sauces, fish filleting to how to use basic kitchen equipment - the site also contains useful advice from leading chefs on a range of issues such as how student chefs can look after their mental health and how they can prepare for their first job interview.
Steve Hobbs, managing director of Grande Cuisine, said: “We are extremely proud of what we have achieved to date and the overwhelming support that we have had from the industry. We are indebted to our ambassador Steve Munkley for his tireless work visiting colleges up and down the country to talk to students about the Academy.
“[We are also] extremely fortunate to have had amazing support from culinary legends including Cyrus Todiwala OBE and Claire Clark MBE, inspirational chef lecturers such as Richie Carter and Anthony Gascoigne, along with The Craft Guild of Chefs and The Royal Academy of Culinary Arts. We are also indebted to the many chef lecturers who have given up their time to help us create video content that is relevant to the classroom curriculum.”
As part of the fifth birthday celebration the Academy will be hosting an educational trip to Lyon for the Craft Guild of Chefs’ Graduate Award and National Young Chef winners, along with the winner of the Andrew Fairlie Scholarship.
Commenting on his experience of using the Academy resources Richie Carter, workplace trainer at the MK College Group, added: “Having been involved with the Academy since its inception I am really pleased to see how it has grown over the past five years. I would highly recommend the platform to any educator or aspiring chef who values accessible, expertly produced, and ever-evolving culinary resources.”
