Four North West Young Chef winners through to Young National Chef finals

Written by: Maria Bracken
Three previous North West Young Chef of the Year winners, alongside reigning champion, l’Enclume’s Thomas Reeves, have made it through to the Young National Chef of the Year finals, held this October.

2016 winner and 2017 runner-up, Daniela Tucci, from Liverpool’s The Art School Restaurant, joins Thomas, alongside 2015 winner Arthur Quin, from the Punchbowl Inn and Restaurant in Cumbria and Danny Young, a chef at Nigel Haworth’s reputed Northcote Manor who captured the title in 2014.

The young chefs, winners of the coveted competition, of which Essential Cuisine is lead sponsor, make up an amazing four of the ten finalists. On the day (October 2nd 2017) each will be presented with a mystery basket of ingredients and be given two hours to create a winning starter, main and dessert.

Nigel Crane, managing director for Essential Cuisine, said: “To have one finalist in the nationals is fantastic, but four is simply sensational.  We’ve been clear in our convictions for many years now – the northwest is a breeding ground for chef talent. We have first-class establishments, dedicated mentors willing to give up their time to develop these young charges and it’s paying serious dividends.  To hold a 40% share of the national field is testament to this. We’ll be cheering them home come the 2nd October.”

Brian Mellor – competition founder & chairman of Judges added: "I am thrilled that these young chefs have the opportunity to test themselves and demonstrate their skills in the national final. It is exactly why the competition began and why we have worked hard to sustain and evolve it for 15 years. It’s testament to all involved that we have created a platform and support network that allows our young chefs to compete at such a high level. I wish them and the other six finalists the very best of luck."
