The Craft Guild of Chefs goes full throttle with WorldSkills

This year spectators at British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) events will be gearing up to learn some fantastic global culinary skills thanks to the Craft Guild of Chefs.
The Guild is proud to be part of the national 'Have A Go' campaign created by WorldSkills London 2011. The aim is to provide one million opportunities for people across the UK to try a new skill in a fun and engaging way as part of its mission to change perceptions of vocational skills and training. "We had a stand at Brands Hatch for the opening race of the BTCC season. Around 35,000 people were at the event and we took to the task of demonstrating the art of sushi making and rolling with the use of vegetarian ingredients," said Stephen Scuffell, vice president of the Craft Guild and executive chef at London's Crown Moran Hotel. "We explained the basic techniques that are involved and gave the people who came to watch us a chance to produce their own sushi rolls. It was a great experience and everyone who visited the stand left with smiles on their faces." The Craft Guild of Chefs joins a number of other partners at the BTCC who are showcasing the skills required in engineering, beauty therapy, robotics and hospitality, and are making them available for everyone to try at every BTCC race meeting this coming season. The 'Have A Go' events are in line with Honda's Gold sponsorship of WorldSkills London 2011. Honda (UK) and the Honda racing team from the 2011 Dunlop MSA BTCC, along with other sponsors and partners to WorldSkills London 2011, are laying down a challenge to spectators and the wider BTCC fraternity to have a go at a variety of activities, which have their roots in vocational skills. "The next circuit is Donington Park and we are set to carry on the Far Eastern inspired theme," said Scuffell. "This time around we'll be showcasing the art of making the perfect spring rolls and the focus will be specifically on moulding and rolling."
