Andrew Green, chief executive of the Craft Guild of Chefs, has spoken to BBC News responding to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) report on youth unemployment.

According to the ONS report, London’s youth unemployment has increased to almost 25% with 135,000 of 16 to 24-year-olds out of work between November and January this year.

The next highest regions were the North East (23.5%), West Midlands (19%) and East Midlands (18.4%). Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland had the lowest rates of youth unemployment according to this new data.

Green spent the day at Capital City College, the largest further education provider in London with an extensive range of courses. There he met chef apprentice Morgan who told BBC News “young people like me should have the chance to do something that they love to do.”

Speaking to BBC News, Green added: "We need to ensure that industry works with colleges so we can ensure that the skillset is fit for purpose. We work with the college to ensure that their curriculum is fit for modern day purposes."
