Competition launches for top UK hotel chefs

Written by: Katie Imms
Are you a chef in a four or five star hotel in Great Britain, and between the ages of 18 and 25? If so, you could be in with the chance of winning the first ever Rising Star Hotel Chef of the Year competition.

Run by hospitality manufacturer, Steelite International, and the Food and Beverage Managers Association (FBMA), entrants must submit a main course recipe complete with all ingredients, method and an image by 7 January 2019.

Judges said presentation will be a ‘major consideration’ in the judging process, as well as creativity, taste and flavour.

The panel includes: Simon Hulstone, chef proprietor at The Elephant Restaurant; Asma Khan, Darjeeling Express chef proprietor; Roy Sommer, FBMA chairman; and Richard Frost, assistant editor of Supper Magazine.

Vice president of marketing at Steelite International, Kim Matienzo, commented: “This competition is a fantastic opportunity for some of the UK’s finest young chefs in the hotel sector to pit their skill and imagination against their peers.

“We’re expecting the highest standard in both the quality of food and presentation skills, so the competition will be fierce.

“We can’t wait to see the recipes looking to make it to the final.”

As well as £2,500 worth of Steelite products for his/her hotel or hotel restaurant, the winner will take home a three-night trip to New York City, including the StarChefs International Chefs Congress 2019 and a culinary tour of the city.

Rising Star Hotel Chef of the Year is open to all chefs aged 18-25 and currently working in a four and five star hotel or hotel restaurant in Great Britain. They must enter by 7 January via www.steelite.com/hotel-chef-competition.
