Chef Will Torrent unveils Coronation recipes

Written by: Edward Waddell
As the nation gathers to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III, it’s time to start thinking about the food says senior brand development chef at Waitrose Will Torrent.

Whether you’re planning a King’s Coronation Big Lunch, a bells-and-whistles street party or a smaller get-together with friends and neighbours, Waitrose are on hand.

Waitrose has not only made an exclusive new collection of products, designed to give customers all they need to create the ultimate celebration, but also a whole host of regal recipes and ideas you'll need for a ‘gathering to remember’. Recipes include Martha Collison's Perfect Scones, John Whaite's Coronation Pavlova Tower or James Cochran's Chicken à la Charles.

Will Torrent has taken inspiration from some favourite recipes and given them a twist including the classic eggs royale becoming the Ultimate Egg Sandwich, and the quintessential G&T gets a refreshing kick of mint, perfect for garden parties across the country.

Showstopping recipes, created especially for the occasion include a quiche but unlike the Coronation Quiche announced from the Palace kitchens, Will’s is filled with pulled ham-hock, peas and asparagus and a Coronation King Oyster Mushroom Salad, using pulled spiced king oyster mushrooms instead of chicken.

Naturally, British ingredients and products have starring roles – artisan cheeses from around the country with some to be found exclusively on Waitrose service counters, Melton Mowbray pork pies, Scottish smoked salmon, Somerset cider and more.

Every party needs a cake – and Will’s tall, three-tier shimmering Waitrose Duchy Organic Carolean Carrot Cake fits the bill perfectly especially alongside Cider, Mixed Berry & Bramley Apple Jellies; a grown-up twist to a much-loved treat – soft-set ruby jelly made with Duchy vintage cider, an exclusive Coronation preserve and a retro crown of cream.

Will also features ingredients from the Waitrose Duchy Organic range, originally founded by the then Prince Charles in 1990, when organic farming was still very much a niche interest. Today the brand remains true to his original values: good food, good farming and good causes.

Will commented: “The King’s Coronation weekend offers us the chance to witness something very special, and what better way to do that than with good food and good company? Whether neighbours unite to toast Their Majesties or people use the extra bank holiday to catch up with loved ones, our recipes and limited edition range has everything to create a majestic sense of occasion. Whether you’re joining a street party or gathering around the TV, I hope you enjoy these special dishes – and a Coronation weekend to remember.”
