Chef José Pizarro to open a ‘Spanish pub’

Written by: Katie Imms
Spanish chef José Pizarro is embarking on his ‘dream’ venture, with the announcement that he is transforming a local Esher (Surrey) pub into a ‘Spanish pub.’

This will see Pizarro – who currently owns three restaurants in London – take over the Swan Inn pub with his family cooking values, while maintaining the British pub feel.

He said: “Esher has made my dream come true. For years I have dreamed of opening a pub but this is the first time that it has been the right building, in the right place.

“(2019) is a special year for me. We call it 20:25 – 20 years since I came to England and 25 years since I became a chef.

“We found amazing enthusiasm for a Spanish restaurant to come into Esher. We will be bringing a mixture of the best of my London restaurants as a basis for the food we will serve here.”

As such, the menu will feature tapas dishes such as croquetas, tortilla and 100% 5J Jamón Ibérico, while a la carte options include classic pub favourites with a ‘José twist’ alongside regional Spanish dishes.

The Swan will open all-day, offering breakfast, tapas and a la carte menus, as well as outside dining in the summer

Pizarro added: “This is my dream and I am going to pursue it. We are looking for local people to join the brigade that we will put together for Esher. Of course we seek the highest quality but we also want fun on both sides of the bar – customers and staff.

“I am very excited for this next chapter. There is not much else that is better than sitting in front of a roaring fireplace with local friends enjoying a pint, and I can’t wait to have that at The Swan.”
