Academy by Simon Rogan chefs return from ‘inspiring’ San Sebastián study tour
The educational experience offered the team a unique insight into Basque culinary excellence, innovation, and culture. Highlights included a kitchen tour with world-renowned chef Elena Arzak, followed by a dinner at her family’s three-Michelin-starred Restaurant Arzak.
David McKown, director of the competition, said: “A highlight for everyone was the opportunity to step inside the kitchen with Elena Arzak and see first-hand how one of the world’s most celebrated restaurants operates. The dinner that followed was simply unforgettable.”
The team also visited the Basque Culinary Centre, where they explored the latest advances in food science and gastronomy, and spent time at Hika Vineyards, learning about sustainable winemaking in the Basque Country. A hands-on Basque cooking class allowed the team to perfect local specialities such as pintxos and traditional seafood dishes.
The study tour was made possible thanks to the support of headline business partner MSK Ingredients and the Savoy Educational Trust, whose ongoing commitment to nurturing the next generation of hospitality talent continues to enrich the UK restaurant industry.
