Winner of Tabasco Oyster Opening Championship announced
The annual event celebrates the start of Britain’s native oyster season by honouring the skill and expertise involved in the craft of oyster shucking. The scored competition challenges shuckers to open and present 30 native oysters as quickly and professionally as possible, before serving their platter of impeccably presented oysters to a panel of judges.
Lindfors impressed the judges with his precision and flair and a scored time of three minutes 10 seconds. His success also secures a place as part of the championship prize to represent Britain at the World Oyster Opening Championships later this month in Galway, Ireland.
He said: “It was a tough competition, with the UK’s top shuckers and chefs all competing, I’m absolutely delighted to win and secure a place at the World Oyster Opening Championships.”
Chris Leftwich, competition head judge and retired chief inspector of the Fishmongers Company, said: “The calibre of talent at today’s event was really impressive, it was a really strong field of competitors. Fredrik demonstrated excellent skills and expertise, not only did he achieve the fastest time but also an outstanding presentation of oysters. I’m delighted to collaborate with TABASCO® Brand on this event to champion such talented individuals in the culinary industry.”
The rest of the judging panel featured key figures from the fish and seafood industry including David Jarrad, Director of the Shellfish Association of Great Britain and Mike Berthet, Fish and Seafood Director of M&J Seafoods and was hosted by renowned chef Brian Turner CBE.
