Wales takes on Belgium and Austria in Battle for the Dragon cooking contest

Written by: Katie Imms
Welsh, Belgian and Austrian chefs will go head to head in the Battle for the Dragon contest, held during the Welsh International Culinary Championships (WICC) next February.

Led by executive head chef Michael Bates, a team from the Celtic Manor Resort (Newport) will be flying the flag for Wales. Belgium will be represented by its national junior team and Austria a regional team.

Set across three days, each will have to cook a 90-cover, three-course meal for a panel of international chef judges and paying customers.

Culinary Association of Wales (CAW) president, Arwyn Watkins commented: “This is a great opportunity for the three teams to compete to Worldchefs’ standards and receive feedback from very experienced judges.

“It’s also an excellent test bed for up-and-coming chefs to be considered by their national teams.

“In addition, the Battle for the Dragon contest exposes international chefs to quality Welsh food and drink products.”

With Wales first to cook on 26 February, Belgium will follow on 27th and Austria on 28th. Book your place for £26 per person by emailing: [email protected].
