Umbrella Training responds to Government apprenticeship reforms

Written by: Edward Waddell
Hospitality training provider Umbrella Training has responded to the Government’s latest apprenticeship reforms, which include the withdrawal of funding for several leadership and management apprenticeship standards from September 2026.

The changes form part of a wider reform package aimed at simplifying the apprenticeship system and refocusing funding on young people entering the workforce and addressing national skills shortages.

The reforms also mean that several widely used leadership standards will lose funding, including the Level 5 Operations Manager, Level 3 Team Leader, and Level 6 Chartered Manager apprenticeships.

Despite the funding changes, the hospitality sector has retained all of its core apprenticeship standards, including the Level 4 Hospitality Manager and Senior Culinary Chef programmes.

Umbrella Training worked with trade body UKHospitality and wider industry partners to advocate for the retention of these essential pathways, helping to ensure that hospitality employers can continue to access the training programmes critical to the sector’s long-term success.

Adele Catherine Oxberry, founder and chief executive of Umbrella Training, said: "These programmes have played a hugely important role in developing leadership talent across the hospitality sector.

“While the withdrawal of funding for management apprenticeships is disappointing for many employers, we recognise and welcome the Government’s focus on creating more opportunities for young people entering the workforce. The key now is ensuring businesses continue to invest in leadership development while also taking advantage of the new opportunities being introduced."
