Renowned chef Albert Roux is guest of honour at Grimsby Institute for charity feast

Albert Roux, one of the UK's first celebrity chefs, was guest of honour at the Grimsby Institute Group's recent charity event.
Invited by the institute's curriculum leader for hospitality, Paul Robinson, Roux hosted the one-off event in Grimsby, where he worked alongside its hospitality and professional cookery students to produce a spectacular feast in aid of St Andrew's Hospice. Roux, his team of chefs and the students produced a menu inspired by Le Gavroche, the now legendary Michelin starred restaurant he opened in London with his brother Michel in the '60s. This was then served to 120 guests who were lucky enough to secure a ticket for the event, which sold out within hours of it being announced. Roux took time to compliment the students on their fantastic work and paid tribute to the wonderful surroundings in which they had to study. "I chose to do this wonderful event after I received a lovely letter from the institute," he said. "It is extremely important to give something back. I would not be here today if it was not for the people who taught me. "These students are very lucky to work in these kitchens. Industry kitchens are not as good as these; they are better than my own kitchen!" Robinson said: "We are always looking for new ways in which to inspire students within the hospitality department and what better way to do this than have Albert Roux visit and work with our department's learners. "To give our staff and learners this opportunity to work alongside one of the godfathers of cookery is something that will stay with each of us for a very long time." Level 1 Hospitality & Catering learner Shannon Melin said she was ecstatic to be able to work alongside Albert Roux. "The tutors are fantastic on my course and to be able to put on my CV that I have worked on an event with Albert Roux is great," she added.
