Parliamentary Pub Chef of the Year competition now open
Following the success of the award’s launch in 2016, which aims to celebrate pub chefs and food across the country, the BBPA has once again teamed up with MPs to help champion the British pub trade and encourage young chefs into the industry.
Both of the two categories – the Pub Chef and Young Pub Chef – require MPs to vote for candidates in their constituency renowned for great pub food. The shortlisted finalists will then be chosen by a panel of judges, including TV guest chef presenter and former Michelin Star holder, Paul Merrett in December 2017, with the competition winner announced in January 2018.
BBPA chief executive Brigid Simmonds said: “With pubs serving around a billion meals each year it is important to recognise the contribution pub chefs make to the eating out experience in this country. The outstanding range of culinary options that span from breakfast to evening meals demonstrates the huge wealth of creativity and skill in our kitchens, big and small.”
George Vezza, managing director of Nestlé Professional added: “We’re particularly excited to be sponsoring an award that recognises those doing their best to secure a bright future for our pub sector.
“Pubs are being increasingly recognised as venues where both chefs and bar staff can get really creative with food and beverages. Shouting about these opportunities will play a major part in encouraging the rejuvenation of pubs and the wider hospitality industry.”
Nominations are now open until 27 October 2017 – more information about the competition and on entering can be found via BBPA’s website: http://www.beerandpub.com/events-awards/pub-chef-of-the-year-award.
