The Ledbury named best restaurant in UK

Three London restaurants, including The Ledbury and Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, have been named in the annual World’s 50 Best list.

The Ledbury in London has been named the best restaurant in the UK as it ranked 14th in the list, the highest UK entry. The two Michelin-starred restaurant climbed six places in the list this year.

The Clove Club won the Highest New Entry award after entering the list at number 26. The Shoreditch site opened in 2013 and chef Isaac McHale has created a menu including haggis doughnuts and warm blood orange dessert.

Italian restaurant Osteria Francescana was named the World’s Best Restaurant 2016 after ranking third in 2013 and 2014, and second in last year’s list. Chef-owner Massimo Bottura is renowned for his twists on traditional Italian culinary ingredients.

The list of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants, along with its special awards, was announced at its annual celebration, hosted at Cipriani Wall Street in New York. The celebration brings together a unique community of culinary talent and features restaurants from 23 countries spread across six continents.

The final UK restaurant to rank within the top 50 is Dinner by Heston Blumenthal. The fine diner that explores British culinary history is perhaps most famous for its ‘meat fruit’ starter which comprises an orb of chicken liver parfait refashioned to perfectly resemble a mandarin.
