Hospitality employees see decline in training options as career progresses

Written by: Edward Waddell
New research released by HIT Training revealed that misconceptions associated with lifelong learning continue to hold hospitality back from unleashing workforce talent.

According to the research more than 80% of hospitality employees see a decline in training options as their career progresses. Less than half of businesses in the sector offer apprenticeships at all career levels even though 77% would take a job if there was the prospect of doing an apprenticeship.

The toolkit, which is called See V and has been launched to the sector by HIT Training, shines a light on how outdated perceptions around lifelong learning pathways such as apprenticeships are holding businesses back from training valuable team members at all career levels.

Only one quarter of employees (25.9%) see apprenticeships as a viable training option for anyone at any stage of their career.

Considering the sector continues to face ongoing staffing issues, with vacancies unfilled, and current employees feeling overworked and at times undervalued, employers would be wise to recognise the potential talent nesting within their teams already.

Jill Whittaker, managing director of HIT Training, said: “At HIT Training, we’re dedicated to educating hospitality employers on the benefits that apprenticeships can bring an entire workforce, not just new starters – such as improved wellbeing, better career progression and a more loyal team less likely to seek better opportunities elsewhere.

“I urge anyone who’s interested in nurturing their team and wants to transform the ambition many employees harbour into useful skillsets to download our new See V toolkit.”
