Former NCOTY winner Ben Murphy announces plan to leave Launceston Place

Former Craft Guild of Chefs National Chef of the Year winner Ben Murphy has announced that after ‘seven terrific years’ at Launceston Place that he will leave the restaurant.

Ben joined Launceston Place as head chef in January 2017. Previously at the Woodford in East London, he was named ‘Chef to Watch’ by The Good Food Guide and earned the title of ‘Breakthrough Chef of the Year’ at the Food & Travel Awards. Ben was made chef patron of Launceston Place in May 2021.

He won the National Chef of the Year competition in 2022. He served up an impressive menu of Butter Poached Pollock, Radish and Oscietra followed by Lake District Young Fallow, Watercress, Onion, Batek Pepper with a dessert of Clementine, Honey, Tahitensis Vanilla and Yoghurt. Ben is currently the kitchen chair of judges at the Graduate Awards.   

In a statement released on X, he said: “My last working day will be the 31st October. It has been a remarkable stage in my working life, and I have grown both personally and professionally.

“From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank my team; past and present, all my suppliers and the loyalty of my guests. Without all of you I wouldn’t have been able to do what I love.

“It is time for a new chapter and I’m open to opportunities. I promise to keep everyone updated. Thank you all for your continued support to me and my team at Launceston Place.”
