Dan Doherty to open New York restaurant with Rhubarb hospitality group

Written by: Katie Imms
Chef Dan Doherty (of Duck and Waffle) has partnered with Rhubarb hospitality group to open a brand new, all-day restaurant in New York next year.

Set to launch in March 2019, the venue is yet to be named but will include a restaurant, bar and terrace, which Doherty will lead as chef partner.

Although he’ll continue to be based in London, Doherty said he “will be spending a lot of time in New York, from pre-opening to launch and beyond.”

It marks the group’s first international restaurant and will join its current portfolio of London-based sites, including Sky Garden and the Royal Albert Hall.

Doherty said: “I love New York and have always been a fan of the food scene there, so was really excited when Rhubarb approached me to work as chef partner on the Hudson Yards project (the restaurant will be located on the fifth floor of 30 Hudson Yards).

“It’s an incredible site and, with an all-day offer, there’s something for everyone. I can’t wait to get in the kitchen!”

The ‘East meets West’ menus are inspired by Doherty’s love of travel, and will include dishes such as: Singapore chilli crab croquettes; roasted chicken with chicken fat rice; an English breakfast bibimbap with fried rice, egg, smoked bacon and spiced sausage; and black sesame waffles with smoked miso ice cream.

Rhubarb chief executive, P.B Jacobse, commented: “We are delighted to partner with Dan, who offers a raw passion for food and an infectious energy.

“He also shares our ethos, which is to push the boundaries in food expectations and deliver something truly memorable.”

The company also announced that it will be opening open a 10,000 sq. ft. restaurant and events space at the top of 30 Hudson Yards in 2020.

Kenneth A. Himmel, chief executive of Related Urban (developing Hudson Yards) said: “When we began curating the Hudson Yards dining collection, we knew this neighbourhood would need a diverse mix of cuisines to appeal to our residents, employees and visitors.

“I have no doubt that together, chef Dan Doherty and Rhubarb will bring a new and exciting culinary experience to Manhattan’s West Side.”
