Craft Guild of Chefs supports Mental Health Awareness Week

Written by: Edward Waddell
As part of its ongoing commitment to positive mental health in hospitality, the Craft Guild of Chefs has once again pledged its support to Mental Health Awareness Week.

Taking place between 13-19th May, the week was set up by the Mental Health Foundation and this year focuses on the benefits of movement and encouraging people to move more.

Andrew Green, chief executive of the Craft Guild of Chefs, said: “Whilst being hugely rewarding, working in hospitality can be challenging at times. We are keen for every chef to have access to support with their mental health should they need it.

“Our wellness programme is in place to provide support and a safe sharing space for chefs, and events such as Mental Health Awareness Week is a fantastic initiative to help raise awareness and reduce stigma in this area.”

In recent years, the Craft Guild of Chefs has been trailblazing a roadmap for positive mental health for chefs, and in 2024 their wellness ambassador Andy Aston was nominated for a Burnt Chef Wellness Award.

The nomination was for their innovative chef wellness programme which has helped more than 300 people to-date and adheres to the mission statement of: ‘The purpose is to always create a culture and environment which is positive, inclusive, energetic and mindful, for the Craft Guild of Chefs members, business partners, supporters and friends’.

The Craft Guild of Chefs new chairman Mark Reynolds is also a strong advocate for creating positive working environments through good mental health initiatives, and is a qualified Mental Health First Aider.
