The Craft Guild of Chefs has pledged its support for Tom Kerridge's new campaign calling for a reduction in hospitality VAT from 20% to 10%, joining growing calls for Government action to safeguard the future of the sector.

Mark Reynolds, chairman of The Craft Guild of Chefs, said: “Hospitality continues to face enormous pressures from rising costs, labour shortages and changing consumer spending habits.

“Tom Kerridge's campaign highlights an issue that affects businesses of every size, from independent restaurants and pubs to hotels, caterers and cafés.

“A reduction in VAT would provide much-needed breathing space, helping operators to invest in their businesses, protect jobs and continue developing the next generation of culinary talent.

“Hospitality is a vital part of the UK's economy and culture, and we fully support the call for a fairer VAT rate that brings us more closely in line with our European neighbours.

“The Craft Guild of Chefs stands alongside Tom and the wider industry in urging Government to recognise the challenges facing our sector and take meaningful action to support its long-term sustainability.”
