Chef Damian Wawrzyniak to cook Polish meal for Duke and Duchess of Cambridge

Written by: James Callery
TV chef Damian Wawrzyniak will cook and serve a selection of Polish delicacies to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in Gdansk on 18 July, after being invited to cook for the royal family.

“I am over the moon to have received an invitation to meet the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and speak with them about Polish-British cooperation during their first official joint visit,” said Wawrzyniak, Great Britain’s Polish food ambassador.

He added: “It’s an honour to be able to serve them my food and to introduce them to some of my favourite traditional Polish recipes.”

The lunch will be served in Gdansk’s Shakespeare Theatre with the menu set to include traditional Polish smalec (lard) with sourdough bread and pickles, and brined tartare of Baltic Sea wild herring with Fenland shallots.

Wawrzyniak opened his first restaurant House of Feasts in Peterborough last month, which he has pledged to open one day a week ‘for homeless people in the surrounding areas’.

The Guild for Chefs UK master craftsman has been credited with pioneering a new appreciation for Polish food in Britain following the launch of his Polish Feast Tour last summer, which he is due to take to the USA next year.
