Derek Wright from Sodexo Prestige won the award for Apprenice Chef of the Year at this year's annual Craft Guild of Chefs' Awards held on the 16th June.
As chef de partie for Sodexo Prestige at Ascot Racecourse, 20 year old Derek Wright produces food for the many hospitality venues and restaurants, while managing the part time chefs brought in for race meetings and events. He is also training at NVQ Level 3 at Westminster Kingsway College, following his NVQ Level 2 training at Preston College Chefs Academy.
Previous work experience includes placements at leading establishments such as The Vineyard at Stockcross and Paul Heathcotes' Michelin starred Longridge Restaurant in Preston.
Having recently won the Sodexo Junior Chef of the Year competition, he has been highly praised by colleagues, who said his "talent, work ethic and commitment deserve recognition".
