Scallops get more sustainable

Written by: Admin
A specialist fishing boat is now making regular landings of scallops dredged from the cold, clear Atlantic waters around the Faroe Islands.
The scallops are shucked and presented as Queenies before being frozen for sale by Faroe Seafood. Year round availability is expected and Faroe Seafood expects to have up to 600 tonnes for sale per year. The boat changes dredging areas on a daily basis to minimise damage to the seabed and avoid stock depletion. "It is this sort of discipline which guarantees Faroe Seafood stocks are sustainable," said Faroe Seafood's general manager, Birgir Kass. The processing factory has relevant Faroese approvals and is currently working to secure the renewal of its BRC accreditation whilst at the same time achieving Marine Stewardship certification. Pack sizes will be as required by customers from 100g to bulk packs. Weblink: www.faroe.com
