London beerhouse celebrates white asparagus season

Written by: Admin
The Bavarian Beerhouse in Shoreditch, London, will be serving up a special menu throughout May to celebrate the taste of the German white asparagus.
The new season asparagus will be flown in especially from Germany and cooked to a German recipe at the London eatery. Grown in the dark, white asparagus has a milder flavour than the green variety grown in the UK. And while delicate, slender stems tend to be a measure of quality for green asparagus, the opposite is generally true for the white variety, with fatter, chunkier spears more highly-rated. In Germany, white asparagus is traditionally served with schnitzel (escalope) or with black forest cured ham, boiled potatoes and hollandaise sauce. It also makes an good soup. All of these recipes will be served at the Bavarian Beerhouse during the white asparagus season. Diana Lehman, general manager, explained her reasons behind introducing this new menu: "White asparagus is a German delicacy and by creating this menu, we hope to bring a new taste experience to the palettes of London diners."
