From September 2014 all children in reception, year 1 and year 2 in state-funded schools in England will receive free school meals.

The Craft Guild of Chefs has joined other industry experts to offer culinary advice, hints and tips to school caterers as they embark on the task of providing Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) from September.

The support began with a series of roadshow where caterers, cooks and partners from across the industry have shared their experiences and best practice. Supporting an air of collaboration and sharing excellence has been evident among everyone involved in preparing for UIFSM.

The Craft Guild of Chefs is working with the Children’s Food Trust, LACA and other industry experts included Elygra, FCSI, Food for Life Partnership and the School Food Plan. Industry suppliers are also offering advice and support.

Further advice and support in available in the form of fact sheets and Q&A documents on the website. Questions gathered from the roadshows and advice from industry experts can be found on this website. The advice includes how to sharpen knives; which cuts of turkey to use; how to store vegetables and nutritional information.
