Wrapmaster encourages chefs to prepare for new food waste laws

Written by: Edward Waddell
With the 6th April 2024 deadline fast approaching for Wales and the 31st March 2026 date upcoming in England, Wrapmaster says the countdown is on for food businesses to tackle their food waste challenge and avoid extra costs.

Food businesses will no longer be allowed to send their food waste to landfill or incineration and there will also be a ban on sending food waste to the sewer.

According to research, 97% of chefs stated that Wrapmaster has helped them reduce their use of food wrap in the kitchen. The ultimate chef wrap system is helping operators to minimise costs ahead of the new UK food waste laws, with a proven 20% material saving vs cardboard cutter boxes.

Endorsed by the Craft Guild of Chefs, caterers and operators can enjoy the ultimate sustainable chef wrap system with Wrapmaster’s Sustainable Collection.

Adrian Brown, managing director of Cofresco Foodservice, said: “As the saying goes ‘An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure’ and this couldn’t be truer considering the new food waste laws coming into Wales. Taking control now and managing your food waste will pay off in the long run and we’re encouraging hospitality businesses to review their processes.

“We all know that wrapping ingredients significantly extends shelf life and helps prevent valuable food from going to waste, but what you use to wrap will impact that cost to your business too - and this is where Wrapmaster is proven to help.

“Our systems give kitchens the sustainable, cost-effective, and practical solution they need when it comes to wrapping and protecting food. Wherever you are in the country, hospitality shouldn’t ignore the countdown to reduce waste, now is the time to make a simple switch that will have a big impact on your businesses and the environment before the deadlines hit.”
