Tom Aikens's flagship Chelsea restaurant to close for makeover

Written by: James Callery
Tom Aikens’s Chelsea restaurant will close its doors on 12 February as the British chef’s flagship restaurant undergoes refurbishment.

The makeover will include a change to the site’s floorplan and interiors alongside a new menu, all aimed at giving the restaurant a more modern and innovative feel.

The relaunch of the Cale Street restaurant, which first opened its doors in 2016, is currently scheduled for 21 March 2018.

The updated food offering will include a sharing menu made up of small plates based around seasonal, British produce.

Set to be included are smaller dishes such as beef tartare with black garlic aioli, new season turnips and puffed rice and salt baked heritage carrots, strained yoghurt and carrot top pesto.

These will sit alongside larger sharing dishes including scallops with fruit pig black pudding and peas and spatchcock Norfolk quail with peanut sauce and pickled sweet cucumber relish.

Other options will include fish pie with cider, leeks and parsley crumb; chicken schnitzel with violet artichoke salad and parmesan; and seven-hour slow cooked shoulder of lamb with mashed potato and balsamic onions.

A rearrangement of the floorplan will see the restaurant laid out over three floors, with the bar becoming the desired focal point for counter dining and drinking

The ground and first floor interiors will be redecorated to a richer, darker colour scheme with a white tile finish and wooden panelling.

In keeping with Aikens’s commitment to local food sourcing and suppliers, fresh produce and thought-provoking photography will be incorporated into the restaurant’s decoration to tell the story of the origins of the restaurant’s food.

“I am incredibly proud of everything that we have achieved over the past 12 years at Chelsea," said Aikens. "Moving forwards, the redesigned space and new menus will allow the restaurant to be more innovative, modern and comfortable, and I am so excited to welcome back loyal faces from over the years, as well as introducing new guests to all that Tom’s Kitchen has to offer.”

Tom’s Kitchen Chelsea is one of five restaurants run by the Michelin-starred chef, who has site’s in St Katherine Docks, Canary Wharf, Birmingham and Istanbul.
